Can I bring beef sticks on an international trip with layovers

Hello everyone! I’m traveling from Mexico to the US, then to Canada, and finally heading to Italy. It’s going to be a long trip with several layovers, and I’m hoping to take some beef sticks (specifically the 2.2oz Jack Links) as snacks. Does anyone know if they are allowed through customs or security in any of these countries? Has anyone traveled through these places with similar snacks? Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks

I’ve never had an issue with beef jerky on flights, but I’m not sure if security or anyone else ever paid attention

I take boxes of protein from the US to India, so you can definitely do that in bulk

Security usually doesn’t care about food unless it’s liquids or powders. Customs is who checks for banned items. Meat products often aren’t allowed without inspections in many countries. Of course, people still sneak things in

Dried meat can’t be brought into the US from abroad. Learned that the hard way while in South Africa

I traveled to Mexico from the US and back without issues with beef sticks. I’ve also gone to Italy from the US with the same snacks.

Not exactly your case, but close enough

I’ve traveled between the US and several European countries, and no one has cared. People will snack

It’s about going INTO the USA, not leaving that matters mostly

I only saw a happy Pikachu face, not shocked

The dog got its snacks

This is why I want my own drug-sniffing service dog

I don’t know when you were flagged. I’m down there for work often. It’s the same dog every time, and he’s a good boy. I saw him flag someone who only had a Slim Jim wrapper in her purse.

They usually just pull you aside and make you get rid of food unless customs says it’s okay

@Scout
I was there last January and had a small bag of Jack Links jerky bites. Both the dog and his handler were really nice, but she did take the meat with a smile. Hopefully, the good boy enjoyed his reward

The main concern is Mexico to the USA. You must declare food when entering the USA. This is an agricultural requirement. Certain items might be taken. Each beef stick should have an original wrapper showing its origin and what’s in it. More details can be found on various Customs websites about bringing food in. You must declare all food coming into the USA, and customs uses dogs to sniff for food, so don’t forget to declare food items

I do this often. I get all-natural, grass-fed beef sticks from Costco and take them everywhere. One time, the Department of Agriculture stopped me. I said I had them, they checked and said it was fine. Just note, they were from the US, so I’m not sure about those from other countries

Remember, you’ll need to declare them. Even if they’re allowed, not declaring them could lead to a bad day if they’re found

Meat products aren’t allowed into Canada. Fish is fine. Declare everything
