Just wondering if it’s still ok to go to Cancun or Playa del Carmen given the US border climate (and talks of mass deportation). Would this increase border security or risks traveling to Mexico? We are only looking to stay in tourist areas, likely full time on the resort.
Tips welcome for transport to Playa del Carmen with reputable private shuttles! Hotel I don’t think have transport
Contrary to the Reddit people of the US, most people I’ve interacted with in Mexico and Latin America don’t care much for politics. There’s a general understanding that the government sucks, lol. They don’t have the same type of tensions there that we do. If you are polite, follow basic rules, and don’t look for trouble, you’ll have a great time.
@Jem
It’s crazy how much people don’t talk politics compared to those chronically online/a good amount of Americans. Just live your life, I promise you making politics your personality is not worth it.
I wouldn’t see why it wouldn’t be safe? Especially when Mexico is very pro tourist. Tourists play a great part in the economic development of the country. Of course, maybe don’t go off to sketchy places, but if you’re gonna do the classic tourist stuff, you should be fine.
@Ash
Okay, I was thinking maybe just budget for more time to go to and from the airport. I don’t know how quickly and the scale of this purported “mass deportation” in the states will be and the logistics of it all. Something I’ll keep an eye out for if anything changes. I guess proper insurance is key.
@Pace
There are not many Mexicans trying to cross the border into the US. They are migrants from Central and South America. They also don’t go to the Yucatan because it’s a peninsula without a path to the US.
Also, the Cancun airport is the worst in the world at the best of times. You need a very solid plan for leaving that airport or they will take all your money haha.
Unless you have problems with your documentation to remain in the US, there is not a risk of leaving the US to Mexico, even if the new Trump administration is at the same time engaging in the most adversarial and horrific versions of their ‘mass deportation’ plans. I would presume you are a US citizen, and US citizens cannot be refused entry to the US.
