What's the cheapest way to get from Seattle to Omaha

I’m a 21-year-old female in Seattle, Washington, and I have a friend getting married in Omaha, Nebraska. My boyfriend (23M) and I have been looking online for ticket prices, and the airline tickets are around $500 round trip each. Third-party sites are cheaper, but we probably wouldn’t sit next to each other. Should we rent a car and drive (we’ll be there for 3 days) or just skip the trip altogether? I need some advice.

Check Alaska Airlines. They offer direct flights from SeaTac to Omaha. Or look at budget airlines; from Chicago to Omaha, it’s a 1.5-hour flight, roughly the same from Minneapolis. Frontier was pretty affordable for me with a connection.

Also, a direct flight is about 3 hours, so sitting separately on a low-cost ticket might be manageable.

Consider Greyhound.

$500 for a domestic flight is pretty typical, especially for Omaha which isn’t a major hub. Renting a car could end up being even pricier, especially considering your age. Plus, you’ll need a place to stay once there and some method of transport to get to and from the airport and wedding.

I recommend checking flight prices to Chicago or Minneapolis/St. Paul to see if they offer lower fares. If they do, check bus or train options from there.

Consider Saint Louis too.

@Eli
Omaha is quite far from STL; I fly to Omaha from there.

Yes, Kansas City could be a good option too. I just suggested those two first because they’re hubs and might have cheaper flights.

I forgot Kansas City existed, haha.

Just walk.

That might be my favorite comment.

When are you traveling? Tomorrow? Three months from now? Six months from now? It matters.

For flights, I see $189 round trip in April/May.
For Greyhound, it’s about $135 one way for tomorrow.

The wedding is on June 29, so we’re planning to leave on the 28th and come back on the 30th.

If you’re flexible with your flight options, I found a round trip for $254. Unless you’re taking your own car and can sleep in it during the drive, I generally find flying is the least expensive for long distances.

At your age, renting a car is a hassle. Just go for a flight.

I’ve called several places, and I can rent a car with an extra $25 per day fee.

Don’t forget insurance, gas, hotels, and food on the road. It’ll be cheaper to fly.

You’re aiming for the cheap option, but $25 a day extra isn’t too bad.

You could fly into Denver and then take Amtrak from Denver to Omaha.

Amtrak is about $80+ one way, and it takes 8 hours.
