Yup, used to be $150 smh.
Crazy expensive, yes. I booked a Hampton in Linden for a bit over a hundred; a short train ride is an inconvenience but saves me at least $200/night.
I stayed at the Pod Brooklyn last year. Super tiny rooms but everything you’d need and you are right in the middle of Brooklyn.

I love pod hotels in general. Amazing option. I wish we had more in the states.
Stay in FiDi. Definitely had cheaper rates than midtown and had great access to the subway; I was just there for 3 nights and spent a little over $600 at the Moxy Downtown on Ann St.
Pod39 is cheap. It’s small but safe and in a central part of Manhattan. Also, the rooftop bar is scenic and a vibe at night.
I stayed at an Airbnb in Jersey City and it was only $450 for a whole week. Everything in NYC was $200+ per night.
If you’re active/retired military, lots of hotels offer discounts but you should call the hotel directly! We booked a place online. When we checked in, my hubby asked about military discounts. They did offer one, but since we didn’t contact them directly, they wouldn’t honor it.
Parsipanny—hotels there.
I booked the Lex Hotel NYC for my trip next spring; it was somewhat cheaper than other hotels in the area (Midtown Manhattan), free breakfast and rooftop with a view. We’ll see how it will be.
Nomad stays every time.
Stayed at The Castle in Tarrytown.

If you have Hyatt or Chase points, check your dates at Hyatt House Jersey City. There’s sometimes a suite upgrade available for $113+ 6000 points a night.
Recently stayed when everything else was $400+ for my dates.
Room is a 1 bedroom with separate living room and a small kitchen.
PATH entrance is 100 yards away, and it’s 1 stop to WTC.
Worked really well for me.
We used Airbnb in NYC. Hotels usually have extra fees.
