As you are aware, there is more processed food in the United States than any other country in the world. I’ve been in Latin America for three weeks now, and I can already tell that my health has improved. I’ve noticed that my skin is much clearer, that I dropped weight despite continuing to eat a lot, that my persistent cough has vanished, and that my allergies have all but disappeared. Was it just a coincidence, or is the food I’m consuming different?
I had a similar thing happen when I spent a month in Europe. Food there is less processed, and I noticed my energy levels shot up, and my skin looked way better. So, yeah, it’s probably the food
Most likely, you’re burning more calories and exercising more. Any country has the potential to produce unhealthy citizens, and the opposite is equally true. You just revert to your old, harmful behaviors when you’re at home; but, you don’t bring them with you when you travel.
Another significant factor is stress; you feel better at ease when you travel.
@Tig This is indeed true, however consuming a lot of processed food can also be a decision, at least partially, especially for those who can afford to take long vacations.
I was astonished by how wonderful I felt during my 10 days in Greece earlier this year. Despite having IBS, I had no stomach issues the entire time I was there. That has never happened to me on a previous trip. I reasoned that it was because the food was so excellent—fresh, non-GMO, and grown in land that wasn’t contaminated.
Hello Maria, that makes sense. It’s fascinating how our environments may alter our routines. While traveling may promote healthier habits, once we go back home, old habits can easily recur. I appreciate your insight.
I recently spent three weeks in Latin America and noticed significant improvements in my health. My skin cleared up, I lost weight despite eating a lot, my persistent cough disappeared, and my allergies almost vanished. It seems that the food I’m eating here, which is less processed than in the U.S., is making a big difference. The fresher ingredients and fewer additives likely contributed to these positive changes. So, it’s probably not a coincidence but rather the result of a healthier diet.
