Hi everyone,
I’m going on a trip and want to save money by buying meals from the deli in supermarkets rather than at restaurants.
I’m thinking about cold cut meats, salads, etc.
Do I need to bring my own cutlery, or do deli counters at supermarkets usually provide this?
Thanks!

Save money (and help the planet) by bringing your own utensils. That way you’re sure to have what you need.

Plus, if you bring your own, you won’t end up with a flimsy spork, which is probably what they’ll provide.

How do you expect anyone to help you without mentioning the country you’re visiting?
There’s no universal regulation on deli cutlery from Azerbaijan to Zimbabwe.

Your second sentence is gold! Thanks for that!

@Foster
I’m convinced that’s a brand-new sentence in English language history! There might be a subreddit for that.

I often carry a titanium spork in my backpack. It comes in handy! I’ve had great experiences buying food at local markets while traveling (both domestically and abroad). It’s more affordable, plus I get to try things I wouldn’t normally buy.

Same here! A spork is a great tool to have on hand!

It depends on the country. Some have food halls in department stores as well.
If you’re unsure, just grab a set of cutlery from a discount store to carry with you.

I bring a camping spork with me for times when I buy food at grocery stores or take leftovers from restaurants.

Yes, they generally have utensils. You might want to look for actual delis as they often have better food at similar prices.

This is likely country-dependent.

Interesting, could you elaborate on that?

One of the best things I carry in my travel kit is a small sharp chef’s knife, along with metal utensils and a small bottle of dish soap.

Is it allowed to fly with cutlery in a carry-on for an international flight, specifically from the US to EDI?

If you’re near a tourist area, many locations in Europe or North America will have cutlery available.

Have you tried supermarket deli food in the UK?
