California Hospital Delaying Wife’s Start Date – What Should We Do?

Good evening…

My wife just took a travel contract in San Francisco, and today we got a message from her agency asking if she can push her start date back by a few weeks but still keep the same end date. The problem is, she’s supposed to start this Monday, and we’ve already booked an expensive Airbnb (SF isn’t cheap), which we can’t cancel. To top it off, her dad is flying in tomorrow morning to help her drive 1,800 miles across the country, while I stay behind for a wedding.
I get that contractors usually get the short end of the stick, but for anyone with experience, any advice on how to deal with this? We told the agency we’d rather not delay, but we’re waiting to hear more tomorrow

In anticipation…

:unamused: Although delays might be annoying, remaining calm and proactive can help you handle the issue more effectively.

Your wife may search for freelance or temporary employment in her industry to fill the gap, depending on how long the wait is.

Speaking with an employment lawyer might be helpful if the delay is creating serious problems. :face_with_monocle: They can offer advice on your rights and possible courses of action.

If your wife has a signed contract, read it over to make sure you understand the start date and any delay-related stipulations. This might serve as the starting point for any conversations with the hospital.
