What's the best area of Chicago to stay in?

I want to go to Chicago in October because I love its architecture. I’ve also heard it’s a great place for food lovers. Which neighborhood should I stay in to be close to the city’s best restaurants, cafes, and bakeries? I’m okay with using public transportation.

You might enjoy staying in Near West, Wicker Park, West Side or Lakeview. Bringing the whole family to Chicago? We recommend Navy Pier, Near South, Lincoln Park or the Near North.

The “classic” restaurants are most accessible from The Loop, which is near to downtown (in actuality, The Loop, Magnificent Mile, and Gold Coast are in a line that stretches north from the center of downtown.) The Girl and the Goat, Stephanie Izard’s first and most well-known restaurant, is located in the east end of the West Loop, and Alinea, Grant Achatz’s now-classic gastronomic home, is located in the southern end of Lincoln Park. However, to be honest, the more exciting dining options will be in Lincoln Park and some of the near north and near west side neighborhoods. You should be able to get some really good offers on Travelocity for hotels in the parts of town that are closer to the airports.
