Good evening…
My wife and I (both US citizens) are flying from Australia to the Philippines, and we’ve got a 3-hour layover in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. We’re not planning to leave the airport during the layover and don’t have any checked bags.
I’ve been searching but can’t find a clear answer—do we need a transit visa for PNG if we’re just staying in the airport for the transfer?
Any info would be awesome
In anticipation…
For a same-day layover in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, you generally do not need a visa if you stay within the airport’s transit area.
On the other hand, you will require a visa if you intend to exit the airport.
You do not require a visa if you stay in the airport’s transit area and do not go through immigration
During your stopover, if you intend to leave the airport, you will need to get a visa and pay a charge of roughly PGK 100 (about USD 28).
Before you go, it’s a good idea to confirm the most recent regulations with your airline or the Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Authority.
