I need to pack A LOT of clothes into a suitcase. Weight is not a concern. Is it worth it to roll my clothes and then vacuum seal them? Or is rolling them basically just as effective? Vacuum bags are kinda pricey but I’m willing to pay for them if it will make a big difference in how much I can pack. Thanks!
I am in love with the roll-up compression/vacuum bags which do not need a vacuum to get the air out! Magic.

Any specific ones you prefer?

No, I just bought a set that seemed to be the best bang for the buck on Amazon.

For what it’s worth, I bought the brand in the link below about six years ago. They’ve held up to multiple vacations and camping trips. No vacuum required.
The trick is to lay the bag flat on a table or bed and fill it evenly so that it’s the same thickness throughout. Then you roll it up (towards the end with the holes) to squeeze the air out. Once done, it’ll be stiff, but still possible to unroll flat. Then, layer the flat bags into the suitcase.

Do you feel like they compress as much as the ones that need a vacuum?
@Blue
Oh I would say at least 90-95%, depending on how hard you roll them. Always do it on a hard surface.

Good to know! Thanks for the tip!!
I agree they are big space savers. Our Dollar tree sells them cheap!

Always bring one in our luggage. We pack all our dirty clothes in them for the flight home.

That’s clever. I have zip compression, which is love, but that’s a great idea for dirty laundry!!

Ooh I didn’t know you could find them there, thanks for the tip!
Just keep in mind that you’re gonna have to vacuum them back into your suitcase from wherever you’re going, and if it’s not someone’s house that has a traditional vacuum, you might get screwed over at the hotel and because they still use the flathead vacuum cleaners.
@Finnian
They have ones you don’t have to vacuum. You just roll them tightly to get all the air out & they come with a clip that zips them closed. Then you just lay them flat.
Vacuum bags are great. You really can put a lot more stuff in your suitcase with them.
I did this after my year in Australia and it was the best thing ever. I got all my sweaters that I thought I was going to have to mail back to fit.

Good to know, because I have a ton of sweaters too ahhaha
You can also use large zip lock bags if you find the vacuum ones to be too pricey.
Dollar store? I’ve never seen them there. Where could I find them in the store?
Get the kind that doesn’t use a vacuum. I use them in my luggage. It allows me to pack a family of 6 in 2 carry ons.
