Solo wheelchair traveling

Never been there ate pero pa check muna before at unbelievable po kayo ate at needed talaga someone to be with you ate… baka meron dyan na mag-aabang sayo :cry::cry:

Let them know in advance, remind them at check-in desk what assistance you need (i.e. aisle chair for boarding?), it’s easier to bring 2 backpacks IMO if it’s a shorter trip. One goes on your backrest the other lap. Bring a hex/torx toolkit for the bolts if you can though some places take it off you and then inevitably the chair breaks right after.

Edit: If you got custom parts that detach (electronics or custom seating) bring them in the cabin while the frame goes in the cargo hold.

At the airport you’ll be fine solo, just make sure to ask for assistance in advance, either online or over the phone. I always do it over the phone just to make sure it sticks in my reservation. They can also walk you through (no pun intended) how it works if you do it over the phone.

As for outside of the airport, where will you be traveling to? That makes a difference.

Backpack.

I’ve heard horror stories about airlines damaging wheelchairs. Please do further research on this, maybe in a subreddit that’s focused on wheelchair mobility?

Yep, an airline somehow completely dropped and smashed my dad’s electric wheelchair.

I’ve done research and most online things say ‘good luck and take pictures before!’ Seems there’s not much preventing, just hoping. I’ll definitely post on a wheelchair forum though; that’s a great idea!

@Nova
If there is a special way that the airline handlers should fold your wheelchair, I’d recommend writing down instructions and attaching them to your chair. My situation is a bit different because I use a rollator, but I tape instructions to it that explain how to fold it because there is a release tab that people often don’t see.
