Should I Sell or Keep My House?

How are you…

I’ve been working as a travel nurse for about three years now. My mortgage is $1,950 a month, plus $490 in HOA fees, so it’s around $2,500 total. The thing is, I was only home for two months in 2023, and this year I’ve only been back for about a month so far. I’m not planning on going back to a staff position anytime soon.
I’m thinking about renting out the place, but rentals in my area won’t cover my mortgage. So for those of you who are also away a lot or in similar situations, do you usually hang on to your house and just eat the extra cost? Or do you rent it out even if it doesn’t cover the full mortgage? Or maybe selling is the way to go? I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice!

Your assistance will be highly valued… :grimacing:

Liquidity from sales may be helpful if you need money for other investments or costs. :weary:

Selling may be an option if you must move for personal, family, or professional reasons.

Selling now can result in a healthy profit :expressionless: if the value of your house has improved dramatically.

 Keeping your house may be financially advantageous if your mortgage rate is low.

You could think about renting out your house to generate extra money if the rental market is robust.
