Most Underrated Destination for Solo Travelers?

Hi everyone,

I know there are plenty of well-known solo travel destinations out there, but I’m really interested in discovering some hidden gems. As a solo traveler, I’m curious about the most underrated places you’ve visited.

What’s a destination you’ve found to be surprisingly wonderful, but doesn’t get as much attention? I’d love to hear your recommendations and any tips you have for exploring that place alone. Looking forward to your suggestions

Japan indeed. I was just there last March/April. It was Sakura season (coincidentally). Stayed in Tokyo for 9 days (not enough, by a long shot). I’m actually returning this October. This time, Osaka, Kyoto then back to Tokyo via Shinkansens (just can’t get enough).

I was on the lookout for off-the-beaten-path destinations for my solo travels and stumbled upon the charming town of Matera in Italy. It’s not as widely known as Rome or Florence, but it turned out to be an incredible experience. The ancient cave dwellings and the unique historical ambiance made it feel like stepping back in time. I enjoyed exploring the narrow streets, trying local cuisine, and staying in a cave hotel. For solo travelers, Matera offers a blend of history, culture, and solitude, with plenty of cozy spots to unwind and immerse yourself in the local vibe. It’s a fantastic choice if you’re seeking something different and less crowded.
