I’m reaching out for advice on a situation my father recently encountered with Malaysia Airlines. A couple of months ago, he booked tickets from Australia to Malaysia. Today, he checked the tickets and noticed what seemed like an error: the departure date on the Malaysia Airlines website didn’t match the arrival date displayed on their app.
Concerned there was a mistake, he decided to change the tickets, which cost him $400. Shortly after paying, he realized that the issue was due to a misunderstanding. He called Malaysia Airlines immediately, within 10 minutes of the payment, but was put on hold for half an hour. Eventually, he was informed that a refund wasn’t possible since it was deemed a voluntary change.
We understand it was a mistake on our part, but given that we acted quickly and reached out to them right away, is there anything we can do to address this? Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hey travellers,
I can assist you in creating an email that is succinct and clear or give you the customer service contact details.
In accordance with applicable consumer protection legislation, I am able to describe your rights as a passenger.also
We can talk about rebooking or compensation options if a refund is not available or would take too long.
If you are in a situation where an immediate resolution is not provided, make sure to keep detailed records of all communications and consider filing a complaint through the airline’s official channels or a consumer protection agency.
Hello Paul, It’s frustrating to face such an issue, especially with the airline’s inflexible policy. Here are some steps your father can take:
Escalate the Issue: Contact Malaysia Airlines again, stressing the quick action taken after the mistake. Request to speak with a supervisor and document all interactions.
Explore Chargeback Options: Contact your bank about a chargeback if the ticket change was made with a credit card.
Seek External Assistance: Reach out to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or consult a travel lawyer for guidance.
Review Terms and Conditions: Check Malaysia Airlines’ terms for any relevant clauses or exceptions.
