Is Lufthansa a good flight? I am travelling in Dec to Tallinn via Frankfurt; are the flights delayed often?

Hello, I am travelling at the end of December from Bangalore to Tallinn via Frankfurt (layover has 4+ hours).

  1. I have heard so many bad reviews about the airline that I’m biting my nails now. Anybody who’s gone through this airline wanna pitch in - how was your experience?

  2. Since it is December, I understand weather is a huge factor, are these flights usually delayed?

  3. What do I do in Frankfurt airport? Anything you wanna suggest please?

  1. What airline has only good reviews?

It’s alright. I didn’t enjoy the food and I found the flight attendants spent most of the time in the galley (in the middle of the plane instead of the back on my flight) so it was quite loud.

Lufthansa is a reliable flight. I’ve had a good experience. I don’t mind flying with them.

It’s a meh airline, but stuff can go wrong everywhere. If I had the choice, I’d rather book one of the Gulf airlines or Turkish, if possible.

Lufthansa is a good airline. Nothing to be stressed about.

Have you ever flown domestic in India? If so then by comparison you’re in for a luxury ride on LH. Weather: nobody will tell now. What to do? Grab a snack?

It’s a meh carrier if you are in coach…but they give decent food.

It seems the more alarming risk in your situation, as described, is not Lufthansa, but Bangalore.

Oh, you again, another question, heh-heh

If it’s around Christmas holidays, it might be a mess; sometimes they lose baggage, it’s just SO many people.

Flights won’t be delayed unless it is extremely snowy or rainy, which is unlikely in December (but you never know, with the weather/climate we are having now, yep).

Please note that Frankfurt airport is really, really HUGE, it has a train running inside. So, a four-hour layover is not a big pause in your travels; you’ll spend most of it commuting from one gate to another (most probably, your flights would be in different terminals; getting to/from takes a while).

Just watch for transportation workers strikes in Germany. Pack at least 2 days of clothes and toiletries in your carry-on. Safe travels!

I always choose Lufthansa when flying from Canada.

Not much to do at Frankfurt Airport. Frankfurt City is only a 20 min train ride away, so you can go see the city if you have a long enough layover (say 3hrs +).

OP has an international connection from an arriving international flight. They would have to clear customs/immigration to leave the airport and technically need to bring their checked bags with them when they leave the airport (I realize people violate that rule all the time) and then go through security and deal with bag checks when they head back to the airport. Adding a ‘quick’ tour of Frankfurt during a 4-hour layover isn’t a very good plan unless the plan includes missing a connection, paying for flight changes, and getting stranded in Frankfurt for the night.

Lufthansa is generally a reliable airline, and I’ve flown with them several times without major issues. Delays can happen, especially in December with winter weather, but a 4+ hour layover should give you a good buffer. At Frankfurt Airport, there’s plenty to explore—duty-free shopping, lounges, and some great food options. If you enjoy planes, check out the observation deck! Just make sure to leave enough time for security and navigating the terminals—it’s a large airport.

Go to Flightaware.com and review the schedules of your flight. Make sure you have plenty of transfer time.

Frankfurt is notorious for delays. And if your inbound flight is slightly delayed, your checked luggage will miss its connection. I’m talking from experience. I’ve had at least 15 layovers there. Because of the layout of the airport, immigration is also a huge bottleneck.

Lufthansa is generally decent, but they have more flights than planes, which means they will cancel arbitrary flights because they’re sending the plane somewhere else.

They rigorously enforce the size and the weight requirements for both your personal item and under-the-seat item. Expect your items to be measured and weighed.

I am flying with Lufthansa from FRA all the time (about 10 times a year, at least half of the flights are in economy) and never ever has anyone from Lufthansa measured or weighed my cabin baggage.

@Drew
Duly noted. I guess I have just been unlucky.
