Is it worth staying in budget hotels when you're traveling on a tight budget?

Hey everyone! I’m planning a big road trip across the US, but I’m trying to stick to a tight budget. I’ve been looking at budget hotels like Motel 6, Super 8, and Red Roof Inn, but I’m a bit worried about cleanliness based on some reviews I’ve read.

Lots of people have mentioned things like dirty bedding, unwashed towels, hair in the shower, and even bugs. I’m not expecting luxury, but I don’t want to end up in a scary situation either.

I’m wondering if these bad experiences are common or just a few rare cases blowing up online. Has anyone stayed in budget hotels in the US recently? Did you have any problems like these, or did you find some good ones?

As a budget traveler, I know I might have to compromise a bit, but I still want a clean place to sleep. I’d love to hear from others who’ve stayed in cheap hotels across America.

If you have any tips for finding clean and cheap places to stay, please share! I’m open to suggestions and would love to hear about any other affordable options you’ve found.

Thanks for your help, and happy travels to everyone!

The hygiene of low-cost hotels might differ greatly. While some encounters could be good, others might run into problems like filthy facilities or beds. For more responsibility, do extensive research, go through current reviews, and think about making a direct reservation via the hotel’s website. For a better experience, don’t be afraid to bring up problems with hotel personnel. Happy travels!

As long as an inexpensive hotel gets good reviews and is said to be clean, I have nothing against it. The Motel 8 was among the cleanest hotels I’ve ever been to. I’ve also stayed at Red Roof Inns, which is excellent. Additionally, I’ve stayed in filthy Intercontinentals with five stars.

Anywhere with fewer than four stars on Google or several reviews complaining about it being dirty or having bugs would not be my choice for a place to stay. I care more about reviews than I do about brand or pricing.
