I have a $60 truck rental booked with this forum for tomorrow evening and returning the next afternoon. Just wondering if this is the final fee and what surprise charges might come up. $60 feels pretty low

Looks like it’s just this cheap. Unlimited mileage and I will definitely fill the tank before I return it to avoid any gas fees. This total is for one day since I am picking up and returning within 24 hours. Compared to Turo, which wanted to charge me for two days for the same time.

Rentals are really that cheap if you’re staying in the same state. Gas is where they get you and damage without insurance makes them a lot of money. People renting from this forum or U-Haul often don’t really know how to drive those trucks or vans.

@Blair
They charge over $10 a gallon and usually don’t even refill the truck for the next person. It’s a big money maker for them.

I’ve had rentals with this forum for as low as $35 a day or even less.

You also need to cover gas and if you are late, there are extra charges.

You can rent a pickup truck at U-Haul for just $20 a day. Just saying.

I hadn’t thought about that, thanks! But the mileage from this forum might make it even out for how I will be using the truck.

@Vic
It’s a good option if you’re with one other person and your travels are local. But if you plan to drive a lot, then this forum might be the better choice for mileage.

We did this a few years ago. My partner just needed any vehicle in Washington State. A few days would have cost about $600 for a basic car. Rented a U-Haul and after mileage and gas, it came to around $120 for the week. It was a great deal.

Taxes, mileage charges if applicable, gas – only you and this forum know the details of the offer. Have you tried reaching out to them?

Your reservation should outline the total charges and show a breakdown of fees and taxes.

For quick bookings, sometimes you get lucky. They have many cars available, and those on the lot are costing them money. So $60 is better than nothing for them.

You will also have to put down a deposit of a few hundred dollars.

The average is $250 to $500 hold on your credit card. If you pay with a debit card, it’s usually about $500. I like this forum, they’ve been good in my experience.

Is this from a truck rental location with this forum? They usually have lower base rates plus mileage with some miles included.

When booking, make sure to check the full price including taxes and fees. Some sites show this upfront, but many do not, especially with the actual rental company.

Is mileage included?

The amount you saw when booking is the final total if you return it on time, in good shape, and full of gas. Just remember, this isn’t the $35 a day they advertise. The final quote will show all fees, so $60 sounds right if you booked for less than 24 hours.

Just a heads up, you should get their damage protection for about $20. It’s worth it to avoid any surprise bills for damage months later.

I will for sure. It wasn’t offered while I booked online, so I assume it will come up when I get the truck.
