I often travel for 7-10 days at a time and try to stay in shape using the workout equipment available in hotel gyms. The issue I face is packing sweaty clothes in my bag to catch my next flight, which can lead to some unpleasant odors if I can’t air them out first. Any suggestions on how to avoid this?
Consider using quick-dry sports gear. You can wash them in a sink with some detergent, wring them out and hang them up. They usually dry within 12 hours and won’t smell.

Definitely! Quick-dry clothing is essential. Bringing a few plastic bags is also helpful; they let you isolate the wet clothes from your other gear. Plus, most hotel rooms have collapsible drying racks you can use whenever you have a few hours between flights.

I should work out at a time where my clothes can dry while I sleep, but sometimes that’s not possible. Using laundry bags sounds like a good plan until I can get back to another room.

Even if clothes dry, they can still smell if packed, especially in humid areas. It’s best to dry them thoroughly, then store the dirty items in a dry bag to prevent odors from spreading to other clothes. If they still smell when you get home, try soaking them in “Sink the Stink” before washing. It works wonders for us scuba divers who often hand wash clothes without a washer
Just lift forks and spoons loaded with food!
I do hikes, yoga in my room, and walk a lot during the day. I also try to do laundry every few days to keep my gear fresh.
I don’t work out on vacation! I get enough exercise walking around. Vacations are for enjoying food and drinks.

I agree if it’s a vacation, but my work travel takes up most of the year. With so many meals on the company dime, I need to find ways to stay in shape.

And the occasional drink, right? Just a few though.

If I don’t get lost while drunk in a city, I didn’t have a good time!
@Sage
Exactly! If I don’t have at least one regrettable moment, I feel like I missed out.

My tour guide in Amsterdam once said that people who fall into canals share three traits: they’re drunk, British, and their fly is down.
@Sage
That made me laugh out loud - thanks for sharing!

If you’re ever in Amsterdam, take a boat tour. Most guides have similar jokes, but mine was genuinely funny.
Using moisture-wicking clothes with a wet bag for storage helps. They might still have a smell, but it won’t transfer to your other clothes.
I try to walk as much as possible, depending on where I am. In longer trips with the right humidity, I’ll wash my workout clothes in the sink.

This week, being in Boston and Chicago, getting a walk in isn’t appealing in this weather!
I swim in the hotel pool and let my trunks dry overnight. I also add a dryer sheet to the laundry bag. Wrapping smelly clothes in outerwear helps contain the odor.
Just seal your sweaty clothes in a trash bag.
