How do I hire a car without a credit card?

Hi everyone. I don’t have a credit card and need to rent a car when I arrive in Toronto from Halifax this week. Does anyone know the best and most affordable company that doesn’t require a credit card?

If I recall properly, SIXT rents out cars without credit cards. Just a Visa debit card should do it.

Have you ever used Turo or a similar service? I think you can pay with your debit card there.

Renting a car in Canada without a credit card can present challenges, as most major rental companies require one for the security deposit. However, there are still several avenues to explore for renting a car upon your arrival in Toronto from Halifax this week:

Rental Companies:

Explore smaller, local rental companies: Some independent rental companies may offer more flexibility and accept a debit card with a refundable deposit or a cash deposit (with restrictions). Contact them directly to understand their specific policies.

Alternative Options:

Car Sharing Services: Consider services like Zipcar or Modo, which operate in Toronto. These platforms typically allow membership and car bookings using a debit card, although age restrictions and verification procedures may apply.

Peer-to-Peer Rental Services: Look into platforms such as Turo, where individuals rent out their vehicles. Some hosts might accept debit card payments or cash deposits. Ensure thorough verification and review insurance coverage carefully when opting for peer-to-peer rentals.

Navigating these alternative options can provide you with potential solutions to rent a car in Toronto without relying on a credit card.

Hi, Artemis. Enterprise Rent-A-Car allows you to rent with a debit card and has locations across the country. I did it for several years.

f you are renting a car without a credit card, you will have to pay the entire amount of the deposit with cash. To make things easier, most rental car businesses just ask for a credit card at the time of pickup rather than handling cash deposits.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is my favourite company. It accepts debit cards at many of their locations, but policies can vary by location. It’s best to call the specific branch in Toronto to confirm.

Have you tried Hertz. It accepts debit cards, but you may need to meet certain requirements, such as a credit check and proof of a return flight.

Try Avis. It accepts debit cards, but this varies by location. Confirm with the specific Toronto branch.
