I’m craving a vacation; I want to get away. I don’t even care where, whether it’s in the country or out, I just want to escape for a few days for less than $500 with my boyfriend.
What’s the most affordable way to do it?

You could try Skyscanner. You can set the destination to “everywhere.”

Yes! I did this and I found some really good tickets. Thank you.

Google Flights has this feature too.
Google Flights. Set departure airport and dates but no destination, then search. In filters, you can add a maximum cost and open the map; it will show you all options. Just make sure to buy it directly from the airline (sometimes Google Flights will show you cheaper options but from third-party companies), and take into consideration that some budget airlines will charge you like 50% extra for what you’re seeing in Google (in the $250/flight range).
@Arthur
This is true.
I use Google Flights Explore in map view for this pretty often. Set your date range or leave it completely open and you can stumble across some real good flight deals. Oftentimes, I let it pick where I go next. Not a hack, but exactly what the tool was designed for.
Google Flights. Don’t fill out the destination and only enter your starting airport. It does exactly what you want.

Use Vegas as a layover if you are traveling to far-off places. For example, I live on the east coast, USA, and sometimes to go to Hawaii, it’s cheaper to fly to Vegas on one airline then book on another airline from Vegas to Honolulu. This is because everyone from everywhere goes to Vegas.
@Jerry
I live in Vegas and this is very true. I have an absurd number of nonstop destinations to choose from.
Also, fun fact: Vegas is nicknamed the ninth island of Hawaii because we have such a high population of Hawaiians who live here.
Look for packaged deals! Go on United flight packages or even JetBlue vacation deals.
Google Flights works best for me.
Google Flights, leave the destination blank.
Scott’s Cheap Flights could be helpful if you are able to travel without needing to request off of work several months in advance.
Dodge the business travel seasons. Track the prices regularly.

Hooper is a decent app to monitor projected flight costs.
