Hotel says room is double-booked, asks me to cancel months after confirming (Sweden, Expedia)

Very weird. Hotels normally take care of making alternate arrangements for the guest when this happens.

Sounds like a loser property.

I’m in America and have worked at multiple hotels. If we overbooked, we had to pay for another room at the same quality hotel for them. Like I said, it’s not the same country, but since using Expedia, maybe they have that policy. That’s if you don’t willingly cancel.

Sounds like the hotel’s problem, not yours.

You booked, you paid, you should expect to stay.

Don’t use Expedia.
