Cheapest way to get to China from Europe? (No time limit)

Stowaway.

Flying would be the cheapest because it’s fast.

I went to China on the Trans-Siberian many years back from London - I took a long, convoluted route so I can’t give much advice on the best way to go, but if you plan properly, you can probably bring costs down. It’s much cheaper to buy Trans-Siberian tickets in Russia than online through agents, by the way.

With the war in Ukraine, it might be tricky to get to Russia in the first place, though.

Well yes, visa costs alone might make this journey a lot more expensive than flying.

That and a new passport you’ll need after that trip.

Stowaway on a Europe to China freight train, probably.

I thought some sarcastic bastard would have said walk.

• Chinese airliner.

• Check out Rome to Shanghai for starters.

I’ve got flights as low as £100 from London to Beijing.

$700 Hong Kong into Frankfurt.

Cargo ship. Even cheaper if you work on it.

But honestly, it would be less painful to work a bit in Europe and buy a cheap plane ticket.

Bicycle.

Budapest.

Budapest has 7(?) direct flights to China, including less ‘mainstream’ cities. Worth a check.

It’s most likely going to be flying. You can overplan all of these train/bus routes, but I’m sure you’ll end up spending more on food/beds if you don’t fly.

Check Google Flights for the best route to suit you. There is no golden rule as both Europe and China are huge and your question is too general. It might involve an overnight bus to a cheaper transit city and then flying at a non-peak time.

Look up the Trans-Siberian train; I read a blog about it a couple of years back.

The Trans-Mongolian is the one that went to China. It hasn’t reopened since COVID. The Trans-Siberian goes to Vladivostok.
