Changing Address as a Travel Nurse

How are you …

As the title says, my wife and I just got married in February 2024, and we’re both travel nurses currently on assignment in Washington. I’ve got a permanent address in Texas (I bought a house a few years ago), and my wife used to live in another state but has recently ended her lease. So now, technically, she doesn’t have an address anymore, but she’ll be using mine since we’re married.

We’ve got a few questions we need help with:

  1. How does she switch her address? Do we go to the DMV, or is there someone else we need to contact?
  2. Her car is still registered in Kentucky. Do we need to re-register it under my Texas address now? :unamused:
  3. We’re having trouble finding clear info on this because, let’s face it, travel nurses in this situation seem like a pretty small group!Any advice on how to handle all the address changes (driver’s license, car registration, taxes, etc.) would be super helpful.
    Your advise is welcome…

As a travel nurse, there are a number of crucial procedures and factors to take into account while changing your residence, particularly in relation to your residency status, taxes, and license.

:wink:For tax reasons, establishing a permanent abode, or tax home, is essential. Where you keep your primary abode and go back to in between assignments is your tax home.

You might need to update your nursing license if you relocate to a new state. If a state is included in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC), you can use the same license to practice in numerous states.

Make sure your address is current on all official papers, such as your federal income tax return, voter registration, and driver’s license.

Think about how it will affect your personal life, such as getting mail and medicines, and your professional nursing license.
