I’ve got a Virgin Atlantic flight from LHR to LAX coming up and was wondering if anyone’s ever managed to get an upgrade offer or deal at the airport check-in or gate.I’ve heard stories about people scoring last-minute upgrades, so I’m curious if it’s actually something that happens often or if it’s just a lucky break. 
Any tips or personal experiences with getting upgrades at the airport would be really helpful!

Upgrades are available at the gate or at check-in with Virgin Atlantic, however availability varies.
Before their flight, customers may place bids for upgrades on Virgin Atlantic. You can enter the amount you wish to bid, and if it is approved, you will be charged that amount.
You can spend your Virgin Points to upgrade your seat if you have any. The “Manage My Booking” area of the website allows you to accomplish this. 
On occasion, especially if the aircraft isn’t completely filled, being courteous and wearing nice clothes might boost your chances of being awarded an upgrade.
