I’ve just left them 1-star reviews (if I could give 0 stars, I would!) on Google, Yelp, and TripAdvisor. I wanted to ensure that this reached as many travelers as possible. If anyone knows of another site for reviews, please let me know.
Avoid this place at all costs. It’s not worth the hassle. We had a reservation for a compact car at Denver airport through Expedia. When we arrived, they informed us they were out of compacts and offered us a Dodge Ram instead, with an additional charge of $76 per day. What the heck?! Any other car rental company would typically provide a free upgrade since it’s their mistake.
We then contacted Expedia to cancel the reservation. Other companies like Thrifty or Ace still had plenty of cars available. After some discussion, it turned out they actually DID HAVE A COMPACT available but were trying to get us to upgrade. After contacting Expedia, they finally relented. We wasted 2 hours dealing with this. What a terrible experience!
While I don’t travel for a living, I’ve rented cars numerous times in the past 23 years living in the US, and I’ve generally had good or at least neutral experiences. This is by far the worst traveling experience I’ve ever had.
@TravelinQueen Also just had a really negative experience with NU in Ft. Lauderdale. Booked through Travelocity and paid in full. When we got there (off site so had to wait for a shuttle) plus a long wait when we got there they forced us to add “partial damage waiver” insurance claiming our insurance policy didn’t offer it (I’m sure they didn’t check that since the guy informed me of that within a second). The cost of the car nearly doubled as a result. We discovered the rental they had given us had expired license plates after we had left and arrived at our location. We had to return the following morning to pick up a replacement car after making several calls. The next time, I’ll do my homework and avoid making a reservation with them.
Ugh, car rental nightmare in Denver! Booked compact, got there, and they said “nope, all out!” Tried to shove me into a giant truck for way more $$ . Turns out they DID have compacts but just wanted extra cash. wasted 2hrs dealing with this! Avoid this place at all costs!
Never try to hire from NU Car Rental. I reserved two cars to pick me up at Cancun Airport. I received a call the day before with instructions on how to arrange for my shuttle to pick me up and transport me to the automobiles.
