"Hey, so I’ve got something to tell you, and it’s kind of embarrassing. I was trying to bring some alcohol into the UK, thinking I could grab a couple of bottles for us. But I didn’t realize that it’s not just about the legal drinking age in the UK — it’s also about bringing alcohol into the country when you’re underage. I’m 20, so I technically shouldn’t be doing that. Anyway, I got caught at customs, and they confiscated the alcohol. It was a bit of a wake-up call because I wasn’t expecting them to be that strict about it.
They didn’t fine me or anything serious, just took the bottles and warned me about the rules. It wasn’t a huge deal, but definitely a lesson learned. I guess I got carried away trying to bring something cool back for everyone, but I’ll make sure not to make that mistake again. I’m honestly just glad I didn’t get into more trouble over it. So yeah, no gin or lager this time, but I’ll find something else to bring back for you next time!"
The last time I traveled to the UK I just walked into the countries both ways. There wasn’t any customs desk or anything. It seems they’re very targeted in who they screen so unless you fit some profile they won’t even acknowledge your existence. I say there is a 0.5% chance of any problem. The penalty probably would be confiscation.

OP is entering the US, if I understand correctly. They will have to talk to someone 100% unless they have global entry, which is unlikely.
I just walked into SFO but the flight was from a Canada connection.
